Lairenmayum Sheibyashachi (LMS) Law College was founded on 7th August, 1958, initially named as the Manipur Law College. The then Home Minister Lal Bahadur Sastri, who later became the Prime Minister of India, laid the foundation stone of the LMS law College. The founder principal of the college Lairenmayum Ibungohal Singh, in the name of his father Lairenmayum Sheibyashachi, donated a substantial sum of money for the development of building, infrastructure, library for the institution.
The college was granted affiliation by the Bar Council of India since 1969 and also recognized by the University Grants Commission. The institution was converted into a full- fledged Government Law College in 1981.
The College is situated at Dewlahland, Chingmeirong, Imphal on the eastern side of National High Way No. 2. The college has picturetesque surrounding, serene atmosphere and a congenial environment for excellent academic pursuit. It is about 2 Km. away from the heart of the Imphal City.
